If you’re in a garage band but want to trade in the shed for the stage, then listen up!
This month, Auckland’s Sale St bar is giving aspiring musicians the chance to take their hobby to the next level by hosting the Metro Garage Band
competition. It doesn’t matter if you’re the most polished amateur band
out there, or more than a little rough around the edges. As long as
your can belt out three good covers and don’t get stage fright, then
this competition could be for you.
So, what do you need to know? Well firstly, this competition is open to
amateur bands only. Secondly, you need to need to get demo to organisers
before 23 May 2011. Heats will then take place on May 29, June 5 and
June 12 before a final on June 19. The winner of said final will receive
a day’s recording time at the Red Bull Studio in Auckland.
“The recording session prize is a wonderful opportunity to lay down some
top quality material at a professional recording studio – and you never
know where that could lead,” says co-sponsor Simon Wilson.
For the public, entry will be $5 with all proceeds going to the Raukatauri Music Therapy Centre, which
provides music therapy services for disabled children. So not only
might you get a chance to see the NZ’s next big thing in music, you will
also be helping a very worthy cause.
